Forex futures positioning data for the week ending October 8, 2019 from the CFTC

  • EUR short 75K vs 66K short last week. Shorts increased by 9K
  • GBP short 73K vs 77K short last week. Shorts trimmed by 4K
  • JPY long 11K vs 14K long last week. Longs trimmed by 3K
  • CHF short 11k vs 12k short last week. Shorts trimmed by 1K
  • AUD short 46k vs 52k short last week. Shorts trimmed by 6K
  • NZD short 38K vs 42K short last week. Shorts trimmed by 4K
  • CAD long 5K vs 6K long last week.  Longs trimmed by 1K
  • prior week

Highlights:

  • The EUR so the biggest change with shorts increasing to the highest short level since June 2019
  • The GBP is also short and traders have been getting hurt over the last few days. There is a chance that the 500 pip move to the upside this week may have been fueled by shorts covering.  We will see how the numbers look next week.
